Free motion machine embroidery skills workshop.
In this class you’ll learn up to a dozen different ways to stitch free motion machine embroidery, including stitching on paper, felt or velvet, sheer fabrics (e.g. organza), water soluble fabric, and thick threads. Samples will include appliqué and textural filling stitch techniques. The finished samples will be collected and displayed in a mini zigzag book with handmade paper pages, fastened with a machine embroidery braid. The stitch techniques learnt will be useful for quilters looking to expand and practise their machine quilting and textile decoration repertoire, and anyone looking to explore mixed media textile art. All samples will be based on a simple motif e.g. leaf, heart, circle, to create a themed book, that you can keep as a reference and inspiration for future projects.
Students need to bring:
A packed lunch — You are welcome to use our microwave/toaster facilities at the studio!
Fabric scraps – (lightweight/dressmaking fabrics – tiny bits are fine!) and any pieces of lace, ribbon or textile remnants that you might like to incorporate.
Papers – A selection of different papers, which could be related to your landscape location for example maps, tourist leaflets – but you can use any papers like old sheet music, gift wrap etc.
We highly recommend that you bring your own machine to this class (please call Becky to discuss machine requirements 01825 841311).
