A little about Carole…

As a young adult I lived in the Sudan and worked in refugee villages teaching sewing skills to refugees and enabling them to gain some economic independence through selling products they learned to make. Back in the UK I furthered my studies, then went on to teach disadvantaged adults, foreign language students, and adults with special needs. My experience in soft furnishings was gained when I worked making furnishings for top London interior designers supplying clients that included the Queen Mother and Clarence House. I have been teaching soft furnishings for the past 27 years alongside my private commission work.

A little about Lara…

Lara Sparks graduated in 1990 from Loughborough College of Art and Design. She has designed embroidery for a variety of textile industries, including fashion, bridal and childrenswear (even menswear). During this time, Lara work won best Bridal Embroidery award for 5 years running.  Lara has also appeared on tv, showing some of her work.

During the 2000s, as a departure from bridal, Lara changed her focus to fashion embroidery and textile design.  A wide range of her designs have been bought and developed by high street names, including Monsoon and Top Shop.

The collection of hand machine-embroidered products above, shows Lara exploring the things she loves to design and make – soft furnishings that are little works of art – quirky, beautiful and fun. The designs are inspired by all things typically English… afternoon tea poured from patterned teapots, served with cakes on lacy tablecloths… meadow flowers and all that is beautiful in our countryside.

Bra Making Weekend

This is a brand new workshop, and we are really excited about it!

In this intensive two-day workshop you will be introduced to all the techniques needed to create a bra. Using stretch fabrics, 1/4 inch seams, getting to grips with rings, slides, and underwires, and working with padding and lace.

In the first day you will make a complete bra using a basic commercial pattern. This is an exercise in technique rather than fit, giving you the chance to make a bra from start to finish with the guidance of a tutor.

On the second day we will experiment with different styles of bra, and learn how to adapt a pattern to make a full band bra, and add lace details and padding. We will make a range of samples that you can use for reference at home.

Every effort will be made to get the right size bra pattern for you, however as many of us are wearing the wrong size, you may need to experiment further and tweak the fit until you reach bra fitting nirvana!

All the materials we will use are included in the price of this workshop and you will have the chance to purchase additional materials to take home and make more bras!

We will send you an email ahead of this workshop asking you to supply your measurements, this is so that we can prepare your bra making kit in the size that best suits your measurements, ready for you to start on the day.

A little about Maria…

Hello! My name is Maria and I just love making dolls…

It all started when a friend brought me a toy making book and we made a very cute bunny toy each. I was over the moon as I remember my Mum making me a handmade soft rabbit toy when I was a little girl (and how much she struggled making him!). The feeling of how much love went into making the bunny could be felt from it every time I picked it up. Then I looked online for patterns and went to the local libraries and found the most amazing selection of make your own cloth doll books. So I went on to make them all and learn the technques!

I studied fashion at St Martins School of Art (just a year after Stella McCartney), and now love to bring my fashion knowledge into my dollmaking. What I discovered is that by making dolls its a fab blank canvas to bring all manner of ideas, techniques, crafts all together in one project! That for me is the ultimate winner!

Learn to make your own knickers! Using silks, cotton lawn and fine jersey we will create stylish smalls in a selection of designs. This class would be great for anyone who has got to grips with their overlocker but although experience is helpful it is not essential.

Please be aware of our cancellation policy before making a booking.

For weekly sewing classes/weekly patchwork and quilting classes

Small classes and a flexible booking structure enable students to learn at their own pace and bring their own project. We understand that it is not always possible to make the commitment to attend a regular class every week so we allow you to pick and choose the sessions that best suit you. We will confirm which future dates you are booked onto when you pay for your sessions. You are able swap to another session within the same week, where there is availability. You may also take breaks for holidays whenever you need to. However, if you have booked to come on a certain date we require 48 hours notice of cancellation otherwise you will be charged for the missed session.

To avoid missed sessions, and because most of our classes are currently operating with a waiting list, if you are unsure about whether you can make a session you are booked onto, we recommend that you cancel as soon as possible (ensuring you give us at least 48 hours notice). This will prevent you having to pay for your missed session. However, if you then realise that you are able to come after all, please give us a call, as a space may still be available.

Please note – Due to our increasing number of students and classes, we can no longer accept cancellations verbally (in person or over the phone) or via text message. All cancellations/requests for changes must be made in writing via email. Please use our designated email address for cancellations:

bookings@dottodotstudio.co.uk

We will reply to confirm that we’ve received your cancellation or change request. The time stamp shown on your email will be used to determine that the 48 hour notice has been given.

We reserve the right to cancel a session if we cannot meet the minimum number of students required for a class.

We have a separate policy for Special weekend/one-off workshops.

For special workshops:

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel, we will endeavor to fill your space from a waiting list. If a cancelled space is filled from a waiting list, we will always offer a 100% refund.

If you need to cancel more than 14 days before the workshop date, then we can offer a 50% refund.

If you need to cancel within 14 days, and we cannot fill your space from a waiting list, we unfortunately cannot offer any refund.

Due to the infrequency of some of our specialist workshops, we are unable to offer transfers but you may send someone in your place. Please let us have their contact details (name, address, e-mail address and telephone number) as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made where possible and confirmation details can be passed on.

In exceptional circumstances we may have to cancel a Workshop. If that happens we will give you as much notice as possible and will try to accommodate you on a different date, or refund your fee paid, whichever you prefer. We do not accept liability for travel or other costs.

Gift Voucher Terms and Conditions

Gift vouchers can be redeemed at Dot to Dot Studio against any class, workshop or products.
